Located at a distance of 58-km from Chennai, Mammallapuram has everything that makes a site memorable; tradition, history, piety, western annals, and current importance as a centre of tourism.
Mammallapuram is located close to Chennai (Madras) on the shores of the Bay of Bengal, along the Indian eastern coast. Known for its rock carvings and monolithic sculptures it has the famous Shore Temple, the only one to have survived the ravages of nature. Also known as the Seven Pagodas (temples), six now lie submerged in the sea. Mammallapuram temples whose architecture was inspired by the Pallava Art were built during the period 830 – 1100 AD.
Day 01: Chennai Mammallapuram
Arrive in Chennai. Transfer from the airport to Mammallapuram. Sightseeing of the famous temples of Mammallapuram, listed on the World Heritage Site List. Overnight at hotel.
Day 02: Mammallapuram
Breakfast at hotel. Day free to relax on the beach / take a day trip to Kanchipuram, famous for its handloom industry and one of the important Hindu pilgrim centres.
Day 03: Mammallapuram Chennai
Breakfast at hotel. You are free to spend the morning at the beach. Afternoon- transfer to Chennai airport for your onward journey.
