On your arrival in Chennai our representative will meet you at the airport. Later you will be transferred to the hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel. Day 02: Chennai-Mammallapuram
After a leisurely breakfast, you will be taken for a tour to Fort St. George, city’s most prominent colonial monument. Drive towards the eclectic Government Museum and Art Gallery to have a glimpse of the superb Chola paintings of the 10th century A.D. Also visit the Kapaleeswarar Temple and the San Thome Cathedral, containing the remains of St Thomas the Apostle (Doubting Thomas).
After the tour of Chennai, proceed to Mammallapuram, also known as Mamallapuram a town in Kancheepuram district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It has an average elevation of 12 metres (39 feet).Check into the hotel here. Mammallapuram was a 7th century port city of the South Indian dynasty of the Pallavas. It is around 60 km south from the city of Chennai. It is believed to have been named after the Pallava king Mamalla. It has various historic monuments built largely between the 7th and the 9th century, and has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 03: Mammallapuram – Pondicherry
In the morning, go for the sightseeing of the famous temples of Mammallapuram, listed on the World Heritage Site List .Afternoon – drive to Pondicherry. Fondly called the French Riviera of the East, Pondicherry was a former colony of French India. A cosmopolitan place, it is also home to an ashram founded by Aurbindo Ghosh, the great revolutionary and mystic of the 19th century India. On arrival in Pondicherry you will be transferred to the hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 04: Pondicherry
Pondicherry has a glorious history. A lot of foreign rulers have been here including the Portuguese, the Dutch, the Danes, the English and the French. But out of all of them, the French have had the greatest influence with their rule spreading across centuries. Pondicherry is a blend of spiritual institution, French colonial heritages, Tamil culture and a cosmopolitan form of life. The city is full of French colonial buildings, clean and wide streets and the sprawling premises of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram. This territory is important from spiritual as well as from cultural point of view. Spend the day exploring Pondicherry by visiting its Sri Aurbindo Ashram, Promenade and Pondicherry Museum. Day 05: Pondicherry – Chennai
Spend the morning with an excursion tour of Auroville or explore the archaeological excavations and French period furniture. Later drive to Chennai. The tour ends here.
